Alex Anderson-Cazales is the founding attorney of Square 1 Legal, PLLC, also known as El Abogado Mexicano, a boutique law firm based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. With more than 17 years of experience, Alex focuses in the areas of family law, criminal defense, and bankruptcy. Committed to serving his clients' best interests, Alex offers flexible services in person and remotely via Zoom, enabling him to assist individuals across Minnesota.
Throughout his career, Alex has handled numerous and varied family law cases, gaining extensive knowledge of mediation and recognizing its importance in fostering agreements between opposing parties. Alex understands that litigating a family matter is not only financially draining but also emotionally and mentally exhausting. That’s why he encourages an openness to mediation — a process which can ultimately better serve a family in transition rather than having a judicial officer decide their fates. As a qualified mediator, he’s dedicated to guiding clients through the mediation process with clarity, effective communication, and a focus on mutual understanding.
Before founding Square 1 Legal, Alex honed his skills working alongside esteemed attorneys, including Iris Ramos and the Wilson Law Group. Along the way, he has taught a course on Legal Terms and Concepts for Interpreters at the University of Minnesota, where he earned his Juris Doctor degree and served as a board member for the Tyrone Guzman Center. Additionally, Alex has participated in panels to educate the public on legal matters and the importance of cultural diversity in client representation. As a consulting attorney for the Mexican Consulate in Saint Paul, Minn. he assisted Mexican nationals in their family law cases. Alex currently continues to serve the community through his pro bono work with Volunteer Lawyers Network, where he was recognized as Lawyer of the Month in February 2019. When he’s not at work, Alex enjoys his time at home with his partner of 15 years and their calico cat named Jolene.
